FAQ

How long is the route?

The route is divided into 8 stages, one per day, but of course it can be completed in more or fewer days depending on your level of fitness or personal style. Walking the Wine and Stone Trail is not a race: take it easy and enjoy the journey!

What is the level of difficulty of the stages?

The stages range from easy to challenging, and are suitable for hikers with experience, especially due to the significant elevation gains. The alternative routes of stages 2 and 3 can become very demanding and potentially dangerous in case of rain or ice, if you’re not experienced and properly equipped. The same applies to the stages in the Upper Lessinia area during winter.

Is it necessary to book accommodation in advance?

Yes, especially in certain stages, accommodation options are limited, so we recommend booking ahead. Each stage lists affiliated accommodations, as well as other available options, including phone numbers and, when available, email addresses.

Where can you sleep along the route?

Along the way you will find B&Bs, farm stays, mountain huts and hotels. Some stages offer several options, while others have only one or two.
The updated list is published on the pages dedicated to each individual stage.

Can I walk the route with my dog?

Yes, the route is suitable for dogs kept on a lead. However, you should pay attention in areas where livestock are grazing or when entering private properties, and of course check in advance with accommodation providers.

Do I need any special equipment?

No, just standard hiking clothing appropriate for the season.

What is the best time of year to walk the route?

From April to October, avoiding the rainiest periods. Spring and autumn offer the most beautiful colours and light. In winter, parts of the route may be covered in snow.

Are there water points along the route?

Yes, but not everywhere. Fountains are available in villages and hamlets, while on isolated sections it is advisable to start with a good supply.

Is it possible to download the GPS track?

Yes. In the section dedicated to each stage you can find the individual GPX files, while the complete track is available on the main presentation page of the route.

Is the route safe?

Yes. The itinerary follows gravel roads, mule tracks and CAI-marked paths. It is still important to check the weather forecast, gather information on trail conditions, and avoid tackling the more isolated stages or optional variants alone unless you have adequate preparation and experience.

Can I take part in the project?

By becoming a member of the “Cammino del Vino e della Pietra” association. This allows you to take an active role and concretely support the development of the route.

Who can I contact for information?

For any information or suggestions, you can write to info@camminodelvinoedellapietra.it or use the form on the “Contacts” page.
