Walk Safely

Walking is a simple, natural act, but on the Cammino del Vino e della Pietra it should never be taken lightly.
This is not an easy route: elevation gain can be significant and some sections are demanding, requiring good fitness and preparation.
Start informed
Study the route before you set off: each stage has its own features and level of difficulty.
Download the GPX track from the website and check it before you leave.
If possible, use a dedicated GPS device.
Appropriate gear
Wear hiking shoes or boots with good grip.
Carry water, a hat, a windproof or waterproof jacket, and a small first-aid kit: some sections are secluded and offer little or no shelter.
Trekking poles can help on ascents and descents.
Coverage and navigation
Mobile signal is not always available, especially in Lessinia.
Share your itinerary with someone before you go.
Hiking with company is always recommended.
Be mindful of animals and pastures
Do not approach calves or grazing animals: mothers can be very protective.
If you encounter guardian or shepherd dogs, do not run and stay calm.
If you see wild boar or wolves, do not approach: back away calmly without sudden noises.
Stay on marked trails and close pasture gates after passing through.
In case of emergency
European emergency number: 112.
Keep the current stage information at hand.
If you can, send your GPS location and wait for help in a safe place.
An informed hike is a happy hike
Hiking safely means hiking better, for longer, and with more joy.
Help us promote a culture of walking that is attentive, respectful, and responsible.
Remember: if something doesn’t feel right or seems dangerous, there’s nothing wrong with stopping or turning back. The destination can wait—safety can’t.
